How to Play Powerball Online from Canada

Although it is based in the United States, you can bet on Powerball from anywhere in the world. Many Canadian Powerball players choose Lottoland because it offers the same odds and potential winnings as you will get when you buy a Powerball ticket in the States.

Additionally, the Lottoland Powerball allows you to choose the PowerPlay option that multiplies non-jackpot winnings by up to 10 times. Other features that are exclusive to Lottoland include system bets and double jackpots.

What is Powerball?

Powerball is a popular lottery that originated in America. Originally called ‘Lotto America’ when it first launched in 1988, the name and game format changed in 1994 and Powerball as we know it was born. In January 2016, PowerBall broke the all-time record for lottery jackpots when a whopping $1.586 billion was paid out. The minimum jackpot for a Powerball draw is always $40 million USD.

Double Jackpot

As mentioned above, Lottoland offers an extra feature known as the double jackpot. This feature allows gamblers to bet to win twice the current jackpot. Essentially, this means that your jackpot winnings will be doubled if you activate this feature. For example, if the top prize is worth $50 million, this feature increases the potential winning to $100 million.

What is Powerball’s PowerPlay?

The PowerPlay feature enables you to multiply the potential winnings of non-jackpot bets. You can activate this feature for $1.50. If you activate this feature and happen to win a tier 2 prize, the winnings will be doubled. The winnings from other tiers can be multiplied by either 2, 3, 4 or 5 depending on the drawn PowerBall. If the jackpot is less than $150 million, the PowerPlay feature can multiply your winnings by up to 10 times. As with all other features of PowerBall, the PowerPlay feature is also available at Lottoland.

PowerBall Prize Tiers

There are nine prize tiers, each with a different return. The highest tier wins you the jackpot. The returns for the other tiers are dependent on the number of people who got the required combination of balls. The prize tiers are as follows:

  • Tier 1 - 5 numbers + Powerball
  • Tier 2 - 5 numbers
  • Tier 3 – 4 numbers + Powerball
  • Tier 4 – 4 numbers
  • Tier 5 - 3 numbers + Powerball
  • Tier 6 – 3 numbers
  • Tier 7 – 2 number’s + Powerball
  • Tier 8 – 1 number + Powerball
  • Tier 9 – Powerball

Taking Part in PowerBall

To win the jackpot your 5 main balls, as well as the Powerball, must match the results of the Powerball draw.  If more than one person wins the jackpot, the prize money is shared equally among the winners.

The draw for the Powerball takes places twice every week, on Wednesday and Saturday evenings. In Canadian Eastern Standard Time, this translates to 11p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday.

If you are not able to stay up for the live draw, you can always check the result on these pages.

How to Claim PowerBall Prizes

The system automatically credits the payout into your Lottoland betting account when you win any amount of money – even that monster jackpot! However, you must verify your account before making any withdrawal. This is a security measure used to prevent unauthorized people from accessing the winnings.

If you are lucky enough to win a prize worth millions of dollars then Lottoland will contact you by phone to share the good news. For smaller prizes you can simply wait for the email with the results, and this amount will be credited to your account.
